The Financial District is located at the southern tip of Manhattan in New York City below City Hall Park, and is one of the largest business districts in the United States. This Lower Manhattan neighborhood is home to many of New York City’s major financial institutions and compact with skyscrapers amid narrow streets, and of course Financial District hotels. Because the Financial District is mainly a place of business and less residential, it can quickly become a ghost town at night and on weekends, with only tourists coming in to visit attractions. The Financial District has a residential population of about 56,000, while during the weekdays the neighborhood grows to about 300,000 people. However, the number of residents in the Financial District and Wall Street has grown greatly in the past 10 years, with many office buildings being converted to apartments and condominiums.
